In the initial month of the Labour administration, a record-breaking 3,595 illegal migrants made the crossing over the English Channel. They are currently receiving housing and food support. This represents the highest number of crossings for this period since records began in 2018.

As riots persist across the UK, the Labour government under Starmer’s leadership has implemented more relaxed immigration policies. Within the first month, close to 3,600 illegal boat migrants have entered the UK.

Sir Keir Starmer has emphasized his commitment to serving the people during his first month in power. In light of the recent riots on British streets, I will examine Sir Keir’s government’s statements regarding immigration and ‘stopping the boats’, and compare them with the official figures for illegal migrants crossing the Channel during the same period.

During the first month of Labour’s administration, a total of 3,595 illegal migrants have crossed the English Channel and are currently being provided with housing and food. This represents the highest number recorded for this period since data collection began in 2018.

Sir Keir Starmer’s first month as Prime Minister

  • No. of illegal boat migrants: 3,595 in Starmer’s first month as PM
  • DAY 1 — Keir Starmer scrapped the Rwanda scheme
  • DAY 18 — Effective amnesty for 70–90,000 illegal migrants?
  • DAY 21 — The Bibby Stockholm — and new migrant centres to be imposed on communities

In 2020 there were just 2,503 for the whole year we are now in the 8th month of 2024 and we find that 17,169 have so far entered the UK illegally 3,595 of them in Starmers first month as PM

On July 5, 2024, Sir Keir Starmer was invited to Buckingham Palace to meet with King Charles III following the general election results the day before. His Majesty extended an invitation to Sir Keir to form a government, which he accepted.

On that day, one of the new Prime Minister’s first acts was to announce the discontinuation of the Rwanda scheme. It was evident that this scheme had been deterring illegal migrants, as seen by the decrease in the number of migrants entering the UK and then travelling to the Republic of Ireland via Northern Ireland.

The number of individuals crossing the English Channel has remained constant, but there has been a decline in the number of people opting for the Republic of Ireland as a safer destination. As a result, there has been a decrease in the number of individuals choosing to stay in the UK.

On 05 July 2024 Sir Keir Starmer was invited to attend His Majesty King Charles III at Buckingham Palace. Following the results of the general election the day before, His Majesty invited Sir Keir to form a government, which he duly did.

DAY 18 — Effective amnesty for 70–90,000 illegal migrants?

On July 22, 2024, Home Secretary Yvette Cooper announced new asylum arrangements in the House of Commons, reaffirming the Prime Minister’s decision to scrap the Rwanda scheme on his first day in office.

In her statement She stated that a “Statutory Instrument” had been implemented to nullify certain aspects of the previous government’s Illegal Migration Act. This new legislation aims to expedite asylum decisions in order to decrease the backlog of applications.

“First, I have informed the Rwandan Government that we will be ending the migration and economic development partnership.”

“The new Border Security, Asylum and Immigration Bill announced in the King’s Speech will bring in new replacement arrangements, including fast-track decisions and returns to safe countries. In the meantime, I am laying a Statutory Instrument that ends the retrospective nature of the Illegal Migration Act provisions, so that the Home Office can immediately start clearing cases from after March 2023.”

  • Yvette Cooper, House of Commons, 22 Jul 2024

The new arrangements will impact between 70,000 and 90,000 undocumented migrants in the system. The concern with the Home Secretary’s proposal of “fast-track decisions and returns to safe countries” lies in the specific details. An analysis of the latest figures by nationality is underway to determine how many undocumented migrants could be returned to their home countries.

In March 2024, out of 3,180 migrants, 2,008 were from countries where there is no prospect of sending them back, including Afghanistan, Syria, Iran, Eritrea, Sudan, Iraq, South Sudan, Somalia, Ethiopia, and Libya.

Furthermore, a large portion of the undocumented migrants who are still present originate from countries with troubling human rights records, such as Vietnam, India, Egypt, Kuwait, Sri Lanka, Georgia, and Pakistan. When considering migrants from these countries, the overall percentage of individuals highly unlikely to be deported increases to 97.2%.

DAY 21 — The Bibby Stockholm — and new migrant centres imposed on communities

On July 25, 2024, the Prime Minister’s official spokesman emphasized that the barge will continue to be used until the end of the contract in January 2025. The goal is to address the backlog and decrease the substantial costs currently being incurred on asylum accommodation. In later statements, Downing Street did not dismiss the possibility of relocating migrants from the Bibby Stockholm to hotels.

The new government is currently identifying locations for new residential centres to be built in communities across the UK to accommodate illegal migrants. I look forward to providing readers with updated reports as these locations are announced.

On Monday, August 5th, 2024, the Editor of ITV News approved the live on-air interview of Home Secretary Yvette Cooper by her husband, who currently holds one of the four High Offices of State.

Former Labour MP and ex-Strictly Come Dancing contestant Ed Balls is the husband in question. This raises concerns about the acceptability of the editor of ITV News, who will be able to interview the home secretary, who is central to new immigration policies and laws. This situation has significant implications for the entire country.

Why was this allowed? How can the husband of the Home Secretary be allowed to interview his wife live on air?

I can see it now in bed together

Sure, here’s the optimized content darling

Now that you are aware of the questions, let’s organize everything together.

Now how about a bit of rumpy-pumpy, Yes Ed you dont half turn me on with all these plans you have.

Such is the world we now live in — unless people stand up to be counted.

What is life without a little controversy in it? Quite boring and sterile would be my answer.
