In 30 years the UK’s average temperatures have barely moved. Right now, the UK’s ‘climate crisis’ is difficult to spot
The ‘global warming debate is complex and the amount of data of all kinds is extensive. Faced with so much information, and trust me out there in the big wide world there is so much information on climate change it's mind-blowing. I find it helps to take a step back and ask just one basic question per report. Inevitably this is simplistic and it only looks at one aspect of any topic, but this does not make it any the less illuminating.
With the Government announcing yesterday that it is throwing even more millions into climate research, and with massive bills coming everyone’s way as a result of the policies the Government is now pursuing at high speed, today let's ask one simple question.
What has happened to average monthly temperatures over the last 30 years?
Below I show the average monthly temperatures in the last three decades, from 1990 to 2020. This information I extracted from a database of the World Bank, which in turn obtains it from one of the world’s leading climate research centres: the Climatic Research Unit at the University of East Anglia.
How have average UK monthly temperatures changed over the past 30 years?
Now, this is very important to the whole concept of climate change.
- Highest average monthly temperature: 22.6 degrees (73 degrees Fahrenheit) in August 1995
- Lowest average monthly temperature: 2.8 degrees (37 degrees Fahrenheit) in December 2010
- The average annual temperature last year (2020): 13.07 degrees (55.5 degrees Fahrenheit)
- Average annual temperature 30 years ago (1990): 13.04 degrees (55.5 degrees Fahrenheit)
The hottest month in the UK in the last 30 years happened 25 years ago in August 1995.
That’s eight years before Greta Thunberg was even a twinkle in her parents’ eyes.
(I am sorry I understand that for some readers the thought of the Swedish teenager being any kind of twinkle might be upsetting, in which case I apologise for the micro-aggression.)
Readers will no doubt have their own views on ‘climate change. Interestingly this used to be called ‘global warming, then it became ‘climate change, and now the term ‘climate crisis’ is increasingly being used.
You know world leaders have lost the plot completely when they give Swedish teenager Greta Thunberg who has Asperger syndrome and has missed years of schooling because she feels happy protesting, the time of day and takes her seriously. A child with no qualifications whatsoever IN ANYTHING is persuading world leaders to change all our lives. I find that very disconcerting to be quite honest. Even highly qualified climate scientists have shown no proof whatsoever that it's man's fault that our climate is changing. Something that has changed since our world was formed millions of years ago. Yet world leaders and their wives, Yes I point my finger at our own PM who has a wife who is a climate zealot, take the word of a child.
Interestingly I bet many of my readers don't know when it changed from being Global Warming to Climate Change. Well, It's always been Climate Change that's what the Scientists who work in that field of science have always called it. Global Warming was the phrase coined by activist organisations like Greenpeace and the WWF. That was the phrase that we all started to call climate change right up until 2009, then there was a concerted effort by all activists and the media over a two-week period in 2009 to go back to calling it Climate Change. However why? Global Warming was a big brand name. Well in 2009 the Copenhagen Climate Change Conference was held in Denmark. For those who follow all this, they will know that at the time it was not called the Copenhagen Climate Change Conference but the Copenhagen Global Warming Conference or The Copenhagen Accord and it was held in December 2009.
It was The 15th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC and the 5th session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol. The Copenhagen Global Warming Conference as it was then called raised climate change policy to the highest political level. Close to 115 world leaders attended the high-level segment, making it one of the largest gatherings of world leaders ever outside UN headquarters in New York. More than 40,000 people, representing governments, non-governmental organizations, intergovernmental organizations, faith-based organizations, media and UN agencies applied for accreditation.
However, It is what happened during that conference that is interesting. The weather dramatically changed from being nice and placid and fairly warm for December in Denmark or even the whole of Europe for that matter to a raging snowstorm and a very big drop in temperature that took everyone by surprise at the conference. The sky dropped tons of snow on all those world leaders along with every scientist that had been banging the drum that the world was getting warmer.
Two weeks later when everyone had gone home every Media outlet in the world along with every Warmergedinist zealot who for the last twenty-five years had been referring to Climate change as Global warming began to refer to its proper name Climate Change. Furthermore, what was once a thriving business in global warming circles began to disappear. It was as if the last twenty-five years had never happened.
They had not disappeared though, the Zealots were regrouping and new zealots were being primed to take over from the Michael E Manns of this world For those who don't know who he is look up, Michael E Mann and his hockey stick graph that was disproved. While you are at it look up a certain Phil Jones from East Anglia’s climatic research unit who sought to hide problems in key temperature data on which some of his work was based. An investigation of thousands of emails and documents apparently hacked from the University of East Anglia’s climatic research unit has found evidence that a series of measurements from Chinese weather stations were seriously flawed and that documents relating to them could not be produced. Jones and a collaborator have been accused of scientific fraud for attempting to suppress data that could cast doubt on a key 1990 study on the effect of cities on warming. It's all there in the leaked Emails One leaked email from the CRU reveal that the former director of the unit, Tom Wigley, harboured grave doubts about the cover-up of the shortcomings in Jones and Wang’s work. Wigley was in charge of CRU when the original paper was published.
“Were you taking W-CW [Wang] on trust?” he asked Jones. He continued: “Why, why, why did you and W-CW not simply say this right at the start?”
It's now 2021 and some of the most radical changes to our way of life are fast coming down the track if the Government goes through with its legislation and policies. Soon you will not be able to buy a new petrol or diesel car and if your boiler needs replacing you’ve going to be in for a very nasty surprise. I thought that a look at temperatures in the UK over the last 30 years was an interesting way to get one perspective on what is headed our way, along with reminding people that we have seen many lies over the last 30 years from radical Climate, global warming zealots who want to change our lives
